True Khmer

A dynamic community of doers built by Cambodians, for Cambodia

About this project

The idea

True Khmer is a national community initiative created as a wake-up call for Cambodians to take an active role in the country's development.

It encourages Cambodians to believe in the abilities of their own people, support one another, and contribute to Cambodia's economic development. True Khmer is built on a simple conviction: Cambodia's future depends on its people and the everyday choices, actions and commitments they take.

The initiative brings together Cambodians who believe in Cambodia and are willing to contribute, connect, learn, support local businesses, share their skills and help create new opportunities for one another.

True Khmer is structured around four complementary pillars: Inspiration, Support, Activation and Reward.

Inspiration comes through the stories of Cambodians who are building, creating, leading and contributing in different fields. Through heart-to-heart interviews, documentaries and community storytelling, True Khmer highlights their journeys, achievements, challenges and choices. These stories offer relatable role models and paving a path young Cambodians can follow.

Support is provided through the True Khmer community and app. Members can connect with one another, discover Cambodian products and services, share their own skills, access mentorship, participate in activities and support fellow members. The platform gather all the ways Cambodians can support Cambodia giving them the tools to exerce their civic responsibility.

Activation turns shared values into concrete action. Through communication campaigns, True Khmer gives members, companies and institutional partners a space for open discussion around the issues affecting Cambodia, as we believe honest dialogue and the exchange of different perspectives are essential for communities to understand challenges, identify shared priorities and find solutions together.

Reward recognizes the people and organizations that contributed the most to Cambodia and its communities, while also inspiring others to take part. Members can record their actions and receive recognition for their contributions through the platform. The annual True Khmer Awards provide wider public recognition to individuals and organizations whose work creates meaningful value for Cambodia and its people, which lead to recognition of course, but also serves as a mean of inspiration, which closes the loop.

Together, these four pillars create a path from inspiration to participation: showing what Cambodians can achieve, providing the community and tools needed to contribute, creating opportunities for action, and recognizing those who make a difference in ways that inspire others to do the same.

The important of local support

Cambodia's continued development depends in part on its ability to strengthen Cambodian businesses, develop local expertise and increase confidence in Cambodian products, services and ideas.

This requires more than producing locally. Cambodian companies need customers who are willing to consider and support local alternatives.

True Khmer is designed to enhance collaboration and help increase local economic growth.

Supporting a Cambodian business, mentoring another member, sharing expertise, organizing a community activity, participating in a campaign or helping someone access an opportunity may seem like a small individual action, but they add up to become strong vectors of action.

True Khmer aims to help build that community.

The initiative is based on the belief that Cambodia's development is a shared responsibility, and True Khmer provides a structure for Cambodians to acttively participate in that development in a way that is organized, practical and measurable.
